Our objective is to provide a relevant but informal summary of news and ongoing activities. Please send all comments, suggestions, and subscription requests to engnews@cygnus.com. PRODUCTS AND RELEASES --------------------- 1. More on G++ Reno 1.0 We inadvertently caused some confusion with our description of the g++ Reno 1.0 release in the last issue of ICE. We released this to the net as part of the gcc release at the end of November. It was not incorporated into the ongoing P4 progressive because of the magnitude of the changes involved. The functionality of Reno 1.0, e.g., full implementation of multiple inheritance and nested classes, will be incorporated into the first progressive release of 1993 ("Q1") available at the end of March. 2. Progressive "P4" Distribution The final build and tape duplication for the P4 progressive release is now in progress. As we mentioned in the last issue of ICE, this is a stabilization release. We have added SCO Unix as a host platform, as well as an early version of the SPARClite target. A number of significant bug fixes have been added, particularly in GDB, and in building specific libraries for different members of a microprocessor family, e.g., the Motorola 68000 vs the 68020. There are no major enhancements, so the main manuals have not been changed significantly. In the interest of not sending out unread and unused distributions, we will not automatically send out tapes and boxes of documentation. Instead, we will send you an update request form first. If you would like to get an update, please return this form to us, or send mail to us at engnews@cygnus.com. SUPPORT ACTIVITIES ------------------- In addition to new developments, a significant part of our engineering resources is devoted to answering questions, fixing problems in the GNU software, and providing a range of support services to our customers. 1. Software maintenance status The maintenance statistics for the last 5 weeks are shown in the following table. We continue to ask for your help in letting us know when a problem has been fixed so that we can move it from a "feedback" state to a "closed" state. If you would like to get a listing of all the reports you have filed with us, please contact us at engnews@cygnus.com. # # # # # # Date Open Analzd Fdback Closed Suspnd Total --------------------------------------------------------- 11/16/92 323 70 347 868 102 1710 12/21/92 354 68 392 911 109 1834 --------------------------------------------------------- Change +31 -2 +45 +43 +7 +124 2. We will be closed on New Year's eve at noon, Thursday, December 31, and reopen 8 am, Monday, January 4. SEASON'S GREETINGS ------------------ 1992 has been an exciting year for us here at Cygnus Support: from the GDB 4.4 release heralded in the first issue of ICE through the long days (and nights) that delivered the ANSI C library, PRMS, Deja-Gnu, the increasingly comprehensive Progressive releases, the Solaris distribution on CDROM, among others, to moving to our new location in Mountain View, we have stretched ourselves and grown. As the year draws to a close, we want to say a warm thank you to all our customers and wish you Happy Holidays. We could not have done this without you. Some of you may wonder about who is really inside Cygnus Engineering. We'd like to take this opportunity to introduce the individuals behind the email addresses.
